Would you believe me if I told you that Bandung is MORE DANGEROUS than Singapore!
Here’s the trouble we usually get into…
(WARNING : jangan ketawa! Karena mungkin lo juga melakukan hal yang sama kalau pulang kampung terlalu sering )
For the Singapore trip…. We just go once a year.
For the Bandung trip… we can go once every 6 months, once every 3 months, or when my mum stays for a long time in Bandung, we might be visiting every month.
For the Singapore trip… we use budget for tickets, hotels, food, recreational activities and most importantly the shopping budget. We don’t use our credit card when we’re abroad.
For the Bandung trip… we just go. My parents house provides comfy beds and yummy food for everyone. As for shopping… I could go mad when I buy clothes for my kids. There’s no need to convert Rupiah, ATM is just around the corner, my credit card will be flying away. And by the way, my parents’ house is located smacked in the middle of Dago, so close from the factory outlets.
For the Singapore trip… we save a lot for an entire year before we can go. Or sometimes we just consider the trip as a reward after working hard and use our annual bonus.
For the Bandung trip… we’re as guilty as hell…. We don’t budget and we don’t even know where this money is coming from. So most likely when we go to Bandung, our monthly cashflow is disrupted by the shopping for clothes and the foodvaganza that went out of hands. Especially our credit card bill that is going to slightly explode the following month.
Maybe it’s the sentimental value of a city?
Or it’s the idea that you’re at home that makes you feel so comfortable yet edgy at the same time?
I spent 5 years of my teenage years in Bandung. Although my father’s ancestors resided in Tegal (oh yes… Poerwo is a Tegal name by the way and we are planning to travel to Tegal this year – more story coming soon), my entire extended family considers ourselves as “Bandung locals”. I guess I’ll always come home to Bandung…
